Atlantic Coast Project Manager for the American Littoral Society Helen
Henderson for a presentation about current threats to Barnegat Bay and
personal actions you can take in your own backyards to help improve
water quality. Tour the "Bayscape for Barnegat Bay Coastal Native
Plant Demonstration Garden" located on the grounds of Maris Stella
with garden designer Judy DeFiglio of Garden Guidance and learn what
plants are most appropriate for your yard. This program is FREE
and will
be
approximately 1.5 hours in length.

Invasive Species
in Coastal Dunes and Maritime Forests

Georgian Court University, New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium, and
the Cape May Plant Materials Center has organized this two day
conference to bring together interested academics, managers, and
environmental professionals and practitioners to share information about
effective management strategies and work together to generate
recommendations for policies and strategies to effectively combat the
spread of invasive species in coastal dune and maritime forest habitats
in the Atlantic Coastal of the United States. Registration fee is

27th Annual Ocean
County Decoy and Gunning Show
Saturday, September 26 - Sunday, September 27, 2009, 7:00 a.m. - 5:00
p.m., Rain or Shine
Three locations in Tuckerton, NJ
Free Admission to this Ocean County event which boasts skilled craftsmen
in the Barnegat Bay tradition and the New Jersey Duck Calling
Championship. First and foremost this is a show highlighting the
working decoy and South Jersey waterfowling heritage. Local talent
will be on display. The event will emphasize working decoys,
antique decoys, model boats, sneakbox building, and waterfowling on
Barnegat Bay. Visit all three Tuckerton locations: Tip Seaman
County Park -- Lakeside Drive and Route 9, Pinelands Regional High
School -- Nugentown Road, and Tuckerton Seaport -- Route 9. For

American Littoral Society
The American Littoral Society (ALS) is a valued
partner of the Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program, and we work
together to protect the valuable natural resources of our area.
Part of protecting these resources is to empower people to care for the
coast through advocating, learning, and conserving. Join the ALS
on one of their field trips and learn how to become a better steward of
the Barnegat Bay and the littoral zone.

Workshops Announced for "Discovering Barnegat
Bay," a Guide Designed for Teachers
Discovering Barnegat Bay is a publication created for
educators. It is a 340-page interdisciplinary guide that addresses the
historical, cultural, and natural resources of the Barnegat Bay
watershed. The guidebook was a cooperative effort between
Ocean County Soil Conservation District and members of the Barnegat
Bay Watershed Environmental Educators Roundtable and funded by the
Barnegat Bay National Estuary Program. Discovering Barnegat Bay will be
introduced to educators and will be available for purchase at a series
of workshops scheduled for various host locations in Ocean County. Don’t

Workshops for Children, Teachers, and So Much
More
In addition to the educational exhibits,
Jenkinson's Aquarium offers workshops for children of all ages, as
well as professional development workshops for teachers and group tours
for schools and scout groups. Groups are provided a general tour of the
building and can choose between a number of Focus Programs that will
highlight a chosen topic. If your group is unable to make it to the
aquarium, we can come to you through our Outreach Program.
Sedge Island Natural Resource Education
Center Workshops for Teachers
The New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife offers an
extraordinary learning experience at its Sedge Island Natural Resource
Education Center, located within New Jersey's first Marine Conservation
Zone. Several uninhabited islands situated just off Island Beach State
Park in Barnegat Bay comprise the 300-acre Sedge Islands Wildlife
Management Area (WMA), a remarkable estuarine environment teeming with
